The AFL Final: Cats Win!
We really enjoyed watching the Aussie Rules Football final at Vicky and James' house last weekend. Jackson seems to be becoming a full-fledged Geelong Cats supporter (Mama and Daddy are still undecided). Vicky provided this interesting article about the match in the New York Times. Go Cats!

sorry vicky and james, but i was barracking for st kilda, even though i still dont understand aussie rules mary
Jackson, this post reminded me of your mother--even younger than you are now--"watching" as the Arkansas Razorbacks won an improbable victory over the Oklahoma Sooners in the 1979 Orange Bowl.
Sounds like St. Kilda may be the Chicago Cubs of Aussie rules!
Mary, we are very pleased to have "converted" (I mean brainwashed) young Jax into saying "Go Cats" and "Go Geelong". Our greatest achievement will be if Jackson actually decides on his own to barrack for Geelong. Our 2nd greatest achievement is that Baby O will be born in a Geelong Premiership year.
Stacy, James is looking forward to giving you a lesson in Aussie Rules when you are down... complete with highlights from this year's Grand Final, if he can possibly bring himself to be unbiased in his commentary!
I suppose I'd better not ask what "rooting" is down there! I'm guessing it's something like "rutting" in rural vulgar speech up here!
How does one pronounce "Barrack"? As in "military barracks," with stress on the first syllable? Or as in "Barack Obama," with stress on the second syllable? Or is it an example of amphibrach, with each syllable stressed equally, and if so, is the first syllable "bar" as in a place that serves drinks, or "bar" as in the "country pronunciation of "bear" (i.e., an ursine)?
Gotta be sure not to embarrass myself too badly when we come down under!

What is "to barrack"?
To "root" for. But "rooting" is something wholly different down here!

CORRECTION: the second possibility should be "bear," or "bare" as in ursine or naked.
